Welcome to Balanced Heart Bakery! We’re a family-run bakery where every treat is baked with love and a dash of homemade magic. We’re passionate about real bread, and you’ll taste it in our organic, 3-day sourdough bread. Each loaf boasting a bold flavour and attitude. These aren’t just loaves; they’re hand-laminated, crafted with meticulous care using traditional methods, and absolutely no shortcuts.

My Story

Baking Memories, One Slice at a Time

After 25 years of living and working in London, I returned to my family home to care for my elderly mother, who has Alzheimer’s. My dad was struggling to cope, even with support from my siblings, and I knew I had to come home. Mum is the loveliest, kindest person you could ever meet, helping her was never a question.
 
To keep her mentally stimulated, I introduced different activities into our daily routine. One of the most meaningful was baking. It’s in our family’s DNA. We come from a hotel background, in fact, I was born in the bedroom above the main bar of our family-run hotel.

Mum was always in the kitchen, baking apple pies for weddings, sausage rolls, and cakes for parties and events. She was at her happiest surrounded by mixing bowls and the warm smells of the oven.
 
Both my brother and I trained as chefs. He went on to cook around the world, while I spent my career working in and managing some of London’s top restaurants, bars, and later, artisan bakeries. I was deeply involved in the operations and business development of several standout bakeries across the capital.
 
Since coming home, baking and cooking with Mum has become a part of our daily rhythm. I needed something I was passionate about, something flexible enough to work around her care. Having been an early riser from my bakery days, I’m still up by 5am. That’s when I began teaching myself the art of sourdough baking, quietly working in the kitchen while Mum still slept.
 
By the time she wakes, the baking is done. She helps with the tidying, and eating Cinnamon buns together, sometimes if my mums not at her day club we head together to deliver our fresh loaves, side by side, creating new memories from an old love.
 
For as long as I can, I will support my mum, loving, caring and baking for her.

Our Mission

Honest, Handmade Food

At the heart of our kitchen is something simple and powerful: love – for family, for tradition, and for honest, handmade food.
 
What began as a way to reconnect with my mother, who lives with Alzheimer’s, has grown into something truly meaningful. Each morning, before she wakes, I rise early to bake fresh organic sourdough and sweet buns, reviving the skills passed down through generations in our hotel kitchen.
We bake with care, using organic ingredients, slow fermentation, and time-honoured techniques to craft bread that nourishes the body and comforts the soul.
 
Our mission is to bake memories, one slice, one bun, one loaf at a time and share the joy and connection that good bread can bring.
